“The dedication to company culture and passionate workforce is what makes Haydon feel more like a family than coworkers. That’s what I love most about our company. And it’s my job to promote that culture of passion, how cool is that?” – Krista Norton

Background
From the earliest days of Krista’s career, she has had a strong desire to help people and instill a culture of fun into the workplace. Growing up in New York, Krista attended the liberal arts college SUNY Geneseo, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with coursework in Organizational Psychology, and a minor in English. Her first job out of college was working for a nonprofit called The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming, an organization that provides services for people with developmental disabilities. She later obtained her master’s degree in management from Keuka College in New York to further expand her skillset. Tired of the cold weather, she moved to Arizona in 2007 to start a new life and career.

Inspiration
Within a couple months of arriving to Arizona, Krista entered into the construction industry. While she had little experience in marketing for the AEC industry, Haydon quickly recognized the expertise she had gained from working for the nonprofit. Krista was well-versed in coordinating multi-disciplinary teams, paying close attention to details, writing service plans, planning special events, and working under tight deadlines; all of which have proved to be beneficial for building Haydon’s marketing team, proposal functions and capabilities.

Leadership
With over a decade of experience working in Haydon’s marketing department, Krista has grown alongside the company over the years. In a recent interview she said, “Haydon has seen many changes in the company as a whole, as well as the marketing department. One constant, however, is the fact that there are always new reasons to celebrate: new projects, markets, leadership and personnel.”

Expertise
During Krista’s first years with the company, she was heavily involved in the pursuit of work and proposal development. Since starting at Haydon through April of 2020, Krista has seen 818 proposals go out the door. “I’m extremely proud of our team’s tenacity and success rate when it comes to pursuing work. There’s a lot we can’t control when it comes to heavily-stacked deadlines, but I make sure to keep our environment organized and most importantly fun so that the pursuit function can stay agile while maintaining a positive attitude. The biggest reason for our success, however, is that we’ve brought on and retained the best talent and I’m incredibly fortunate to be on their team.”

Future
Krista’s recent promotion to marketing director couldn’t come at a better time, as the company recently built up their marketing department to seven employees. Krista is able to focus on big-picture strategy and find innovative ways to reach Haydon’s clients and industry partners through new and traditional marketing efforts. She remarked, “Not only is Haydon incredibly strong, but our projects and field staff are also. We’ve been working hard over the last few years to improve processes and build a better Haydon, now it’s time to share what we’re doing with the construction industry and our community.”
