“True leadership comes in the form of honesty and integrity. It’s rare, but when you find it, it really makes all the difference.” – Jason Young

Background
Before joining Haydon in 2018, Jason began his career working for the US Army as an E4 Specialist, where he served a total of seven years, with three years of active duty and four years in the Arizona National Guard. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Jason was a team leader for three soldiers involved in rebuilding and community support operations.

Since Jason was a teenager, he had always wanted to become an architect. Near the end of his career with the US Army in 2002, Jason received an associate of applied science degree in computer aided drafting and design.

Inspiration
Jason spent the next 16 years gaining valuable experience drafting and modeling for Billy Boat Performance, Coe and Van Loo Consultants, Lloyd Consulting Group, RHDesign, and IES Communications before joining Haydon as BIM Director in 2018. “BIM and VDC are everything I enjoy rolled into one discipline, keeping me passionate about what I do every day.”

Leadership
Since joining Haydon, Jason has noticed that what sets Haydon’s culture apart is that, “We actually live our culture out on a day-to-day basis. It’s rare to find a company that truly practices what they preach.” Jason leads his team using his determined work ethic to, “… show up every day and work as hard as I can. In our field, there is always something new on the horizon and ways to further hone our skills.” As a life-long learner, Jason strives to bring new offerings to his team and find solutions for bringing efficiency and effectiveness to VDC.

Expertise
As director of Haydon’s H3D services, Jason provides management and direction for their VDC services. “I work with our team to set standards, deliver projects and coordinate marketing strategies for the company.” H3D is a subsidiary of Haydon that provides modeling, coordination and reality capture services across the construction spectrum. Jason’s team of modelers works to supplement existing teams and implement H3D’s collaborative framework and agile team.

Simultaneously, Jason serves as Haydon’s BIM Manager where he supports all the departments within Haydon, including pre-construction, building operations, estimating, civil operations and marketing. “My favorite part of my job is working alongside so many talented modelers, and the occasional day where I get to actually model.”

Future
When asked about the future at Haydon Jason said, “Each year, we have seen more growth as it relates to how we can help our trade partners. We understand that not every company can sustain a full team of modelers, but it doesn’t mean that their business should suffer because of it.” With ten team members pursuing their drone pilot certification, Haydon continues to grow their service offerings, bringing an experienced VDC department to the construction marketplace.
